memory

I've decided to participate in Memory Monday. Last week I memorized Isaiah 61:1-2. I started reading Beth Moore's Breaking Free and those are the verses she says to start with. So here it goes from memory... The spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, And release from darkness for the prisoners. To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God. To comfort those who morn... I'll be adding verse 3 this week.

fudge yumminess

This week I baked a yummy fudge cake from Alton Brown's cookbook I'm Just Here for More Food. Obviously, it was a little more difficult to make than a boxed mix, but way yummier. The batter was the best part of making the cake. It seemed really runny, like Alton said it would be, but baked up super moist. The frosting was difficult to make because you needed a hand mixer, which we don't own, but it turned out ok. You were supposed to put the saucepan in a bowl of ice water and then mix it, but I just mixed it and then stuck it in the fridge to cool off.

deliver

As long as the sun comes up in the morning, God will keep offering to deliver His children.

decisions decisions

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM) Children's Vaccinations (What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About...) I read this book as Mike and I were trying to decide what to do about vaccines before Hudson's 2 month well baby check. While it was helpful, I liked Dr. Sears' Vaccine Book better. This book did have some new information about the connections between vaccines and autism and autoimmune diseases. The actual parts about the vaccines was descent. Sometimes, her descriptions of the actual diseases was scarier than the description of the vaccine reactions. I was disappointed with the sections on a few vaccines that she doesn't recommend. She didn't have much information. I felt that if she wasn't recommending them, she should have even more information so I could know why.

so-so

Still Missing Just finished reading Still Missing by Chevy Stevens. I almost put it down halfway through. I had a really hard time getting into this book. The voice seemed very harsh and detached from the story. I think that was actually the point. The story is told from the point of view of a woman who was abducted and escaped an is telling her story to her shrink. About half way through the book, it almost seemed like someone else started writing. The story became much more interesting and had more energy and life. I did manage to finish it, but I'm not sure I'll read anything else by this author.

mini loaf pans

Today I baked 4 mini loaves of banana bread. This is also a stand by recipe in our house. It's from a cookbook we got on our honeymoon in Savannah, Georgia. We always had banana bread growing up. I love to slather it with cream cheese. I also had to hard-boil some eggs because we also always had hard-boiled eggs with our banana bread. Weird, I know. Hudson hung out in the kitchen while I was cooking and even
Sadie stopped by to see what we were doing and to see if she was going to get anything. My favorite part about baking banana bread my be using my mini loaf pans. I got these a few years ago and was so excited about them for months, that Mike still kids me about it.

be prepared to be scared

I just finished reading Deeper than the Dead by Tami Hoag for one of my August fiction books. I love Tami Hoag as an author & this book did not disappoint. I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed in the book. It was one of those books I couldn't read before bed and certainly couldn't read it when Mike was gone last weekend. When I went to the library today, I picked up some less scary books so I can read them before bed.

baking august 9-15

I started out easy with my baking goal. Just chocolate chip cookies. The recipe comes from the back of the ghirardelli package, but I like to think that the recipe is from Miranda.
These cookies are one of the first things I learned how to make from scratch. I would actually rather eat the dough than the cookies, but I still baked some for Mike.

year27

27 seems strange to me. not old, just different. perhaps it's because i'm a mom now. i love every minute of it (well most), but i don't want to forget about me this year. hence the 27 things. i hope this list helps me remember to do the things that i love and to stretch me as well. the list isn't complete yet, but i'm excited to get started.
